Do you like music? Music is something that has been enjoyed for long since the ancient times of cultural songs and dances. This is because of the many purposes it serves, of which the main ones include entertainment and relaxation. Relaxation is brought about by the fact that music is really soothing. It has also been widely used as a platform to pass many messages.
There are many aspects of music that have evolved over the years. In ancient times for example, music was simply composed of spoken words and beats produced by some basic instruments. Think about the journey music has taken to today where it is composed by complex instruments and saved in Mp3 format.
In considering the ancient times, saving music in a medium to that to listen later was something unimaginable. Enjoying it means that it had to be performed real time. If there were no performers, you could as well sing to yourself. There was nothing like an Mp3 player or a CD player! Life must have been so hard, you are thinking. But people still enjoyed music. Almost everyone could sing as there were no dedicated artists meant to record songs and sell them to their fans.
Then later came inventions that were meant to address the music sector. Some of them included recording studios, jukeboxes, cassette players and walkmans. Such completely revolutionized music and people could now record songs and sell them in various storage mediums like audio cassettes. People could now enjoy pre-recorded music and play it as many times as desired.
A couple of years later, compact disks were introduced. There were way better in terms of storage capacity as one CD could hold 700 Megabytes of data as compared to audio cassettes that had a capacity of less than ten Megabytes. Although they could both hold the same number of songs, CDs had a better audio quality of the music and hence were widely preferred to the audio cassettes.
The main format used to distribute music in CDs this time took up about forty Megabytes per song and that is why Mp3 format was invented. Mp3 in full is Mpeg Audio Layer 3 that was invented by the Mpeg group and was immediately accepted as a God-sent gift to the music industry. This is because Mp3 songs maintained a high sound quality of the songs and at the same time occupied a very small memory space. One song in Mp3 format occupies less than ten Megabytes. This was made possible by compressing the audio files to that size.
Distribution of Mp3 songs by music distributors has so far been very easy and profitable. On the side of music lovers, obtaining Mp3 songs has also been easy. This can be attributed to Mp3 download sites where you can download your favorite songs under a small fee. In fact there are thousands of Mp3 websites that are constantly updated with the freshest songs so that internet users can enjoy.
Mp3 format for music can therefore be concluded to be a very good media for music distribution. It is surely a job well done on the side of the Mpeg group.
